Notes

The pier had been closed for safety inspections since 2019. The brief required a phased renewal that would keep the structure open through summer and complete the major works during winter shutdowns. We assessed all 1,400 deck planks individually, salvaging 340 for re-use; the rest were replaced with sourced hardwood. Nine of the eleven cast-iron columns required cathodic protection rather than replacement. The pier reopened for the 2024 summer season three weeks ahead of schedule.
